Sodium Metabisulfite, 500g Sodium metabisulfite, or sodium pyrosulfite, is commonly used to precipitate dissolved gold out of aqua regia and gold chloride solutions. Sodium metabisulfite is a white, slightly yellowish crystalline powder with a sulfur dioxide odor (rotten eggs), dissolving easily in water. When mixed with water or a strong acid solution, it releases sulfur dioxide (SO2), a pungent, unpleasant smelling gas that can also cause breathing difficulties in some people. Released sulfur dioxide however makes the water a strong reducing agent, which is useful in many chemical and industrial applications. Chemical Formula: Na2S2O5 Appearance: White to yellow, free-flowing powder Chemical Grade: Technical Quantity: 500g CAS number: 7681-51-4
